Unable to answer calls

Hi, my Z3 compact has been working fine but this evening I suddenly noticed that I cannnot answer incoming calls neither in standby mode nor when the home screen is active. The phone rings out but the swipe icons for answering the call simply don't appear any more even when the home screen is active. If the phone rings when in standby mode, the phone simply stays blank and cannot be woken up. The call eventually times out and leaves a message on my voicemail. I see the notification light flashing and the sound of the phone ringing but the screen is otherwise blank. If I try to press the power button to wake up the phone then the call is immediately diverted to my voicemail service.

I can make outgoing calls OK, but incoming calls can no longer be answered! I have power-cycled several times but still the problem persists. This is weird! Is there some kind of setting I may have inadvertently clicked which could possibly cause this? Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

Hmmm have you checked the "notification" settings?

Settings > Personalization > Manage notifications

Under "all" there are several services that can be disabled and enabled. If you can't answer phone calls it could be that thelephony or InCallUi has been disabled.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Please try this: Main Menu > Settings > Apps > All > Phone > Clear Data.

Thanks, Sam. Just tried that but no joy Slightly_frowning_Face The phone rings and still no answering icons appear. There's just no way to answer it? If I hit the power button then the call ends and I get a missed call icon appearing.

Anything else I can try?

Just to say that I saw the other thread like this from a couple of days ago and decided to go for the full "Repair my Phone" option in the Sony PC Companion. That made it work again at the cost of having to backup, restore and reset all my apps and customisations which took several hours in total. I sincerely hope I don't get the same problem again because it's a real pain to go through all that lot to fix what is surely a software issue in KitKat.

Cheers, Bob

Ah, good thinking! That might very well have been the issue as I was definitely digging around in there at one point disabling the more annoying stuff. I can't be sure now which ones I unticked because the reset returned everything to the default settings.

If I get the problem again I will re-post for anyone googling this issue. Thanks for replying.

Many thanks Mr_O that advice works a treat!

I must of messed about with my settings at some stage and the InCallUi had been disabled, so its saved alot of time resetting, otherwise it would have been a trip into town to vent at the staff in my local EE store!

Settings > Personalization > Manage notifications (Tick box InCallUi)

Solved my issue of not being able to answer a call due to no caller ID and everything described by Bobosola.

Thanks so much Mr_O; I just looked this question up and this was the correct answer for me.  Thanks also to OP for warming up the thread so the question was already answered for me by the time I looked Slightly_smiling_Face

Thanks for the fix. If anyone from Sony is monitoring these posts, why do you supply phones that haven't been setup properly?
