Can someone please help, when i connect up the usb cable from my z1 compact to my dell computer and for example i may have 3 photos on the phone (its only 1 week old) but it takes 10 minutes to transfer up to near 3000 images??? to photo gallery, when i only have the three photos? It appears when i loaded them onto my computer they are fonts and things like that, also when i delete the images after the transfer the next day i have 300 plus new images again, again i transfer and delete, and today again i have over 700 images, why dose this happen? what setting do i need to change on the phone to stop this please.
Are you using any kind of Photo Sync app? Or using the default photo sync options in G+ or facebook?
so are you saying i need 'auto sync' turned off? I have not added any photo apps or anything to my phone since i bought it.
What Windows are you using? And how do you transfer the photos to your PC? It sounds like you're using some type of program to transfer the photos. If yes, what program do you use?
I am using windows 7 home premium
I transfer via the supplied USB cable
I am then given the option to choose between,
1 Sync digital media with windows media player
2 Open device to view file with IE
3 Import pictures and videos using windows
4 Download images from EOS camera using cannon EOS utility
5 Import pictures and videos using photo gallery (i use this one)
6 Configure device for network access using network configuration wizard
Okay, I think this function will search for all the images on your phone (photos, icons, fonts etc.). Perhaps, there is a setting for this function that you can change so it wont import everything but I'm not quite sure.
If you only want to transfer your photos, I suggest that you choose "open device to view files". From here you will find the Internal storage and the SD-card if you have one mounted. Open the internal storage/SD-card (depends on which data storage you have selected) > DCIM > 100ANDRO > Here you will find the photos that you take with your camera and you can easily mark them to copy and then paste them to a folder on your PC.
Well i tried my usual transfer and today i have 719 items!, thats just today, surely this dose not happen to everyone like this?
I took 6 photos in the last 24 hours so i dont understand why this happens, i should be able to use photo gallery to get the 6 photos without all this other rubbish? This is very bizzare IMO its 2014 and i cant transfer easily photos to my computer?
I have tried what you mention and the SD is empty apparently, and the options i get are
LOST.DIR Customized capability and Default capability
I have no idea what that means?
Ok, so i saved photos to SD card, (it was wiped to try and solve the original issue) and i see them now on what you mention, but surely there is an easier way than this?
Dosnt Sony have its own software that works?
The beauty of photo gallery is that you get the thumnails of the photos/videos for preview then you select the ones you want to transfer and then they transfer into dated file into pictures.
As I said in my previous post, it's propably some type of setting in the transfer program you are using. You should check with Microsoft if they can give you further assistance regarding photo gallery.
I think that your photos are stored on the internal storage if your SD-card is empty. Make sure that your USB connection mode is set as MTP which can be done via Settings > Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity > USB connection mode > Media transfer mode (MTP).
You can also install our program PC companion where you will find the function "Media GO" which can be used to transfer media files. Or you can use the file manager in PCC where you can select your photos manually and use copy/paste to save them. PC Companion can be found at the following link:

I am using media go and that dose the trick, i had that installed for my experia arc s but i found it confusing so i uninstalled, it appears sony have made it a bit more user friendly now, hopefully happy days.
I have exactly the same problem. I have installed sony companion and Media Go, but that doesn´t make any difference.
Sony should have a simple manual and a simple way to trasfer photos from the phone (in my case Xperia Go) to the computer.
