Just over a week ago my phone developed an issue with the middle of the screen and it doesn't respond very well to touch. So buttons on a keyboard or trying to move or touch icons in that area. It sound similar to /t5/Xperia-M4-Aqua/Touch-screen-middle/m-p/1121942#M6826
I have tried in safe mode (http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008#U348008) and it is still the same.
I have run tests (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Sony+Xperia+Phone+-+Service+-+Test+Menu/24223) using touch screen and you can see the issue quite clearly.
Any advice or is the phone screen dead?

I'm sorry to hear about your phone. 
Do you have a screen protector on your phone? If you do, could you please try and remove it and see if there is any difference in how the touch screen is reacting?
If there is no difference when you remove it or if you don't have one at all I'd recommend that you perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. Do note that this will delete all data stored on your internal storage so it's recommended to backup using Xperia Companion your data before performing the software repair.
If you still aren't able to use the middle part of your touch screen it sounds like it's hardware related and you will have to contact your Local support so they can assist you with having the phone sent in to an authorized service centre.

I have this sudden problem with touch screen not working on the part where letter 'b' and 'h' is positioned when using keyboard. Ive tried 'safe mode', tried to remove SD card, tried the 'touch screen diagnostics' and tried 'reset' but the problem still exists.. i tried to check the touch screen using the *#*#7378423#*#* and the result is that I cannot draw vertical lines on the area where it is not working (tried horizontal and diagonal lines and they were perfectly fine).
Please advise if what is the problem and possible solution. This is really frustrating.
P.S. its the area between the thick vertical lines.

Based on the troubleshooting you have already done on your own, your device will need to be examined at an authorized service centre. Your Local support team will assist you further so please get in touch with them.
