It has a dead spot and if screen left on or an app left open it is doing its own thing
Hi @Meshelle38, I am sorry to hear about this.
Have you tried testing the functionality of the touchscreen using the diagnostics function? In order to do this, Find and tap Settings > About phone > Xperia tests > Display/Touchscreen. You can also try removing any protective case, screen protection film or cover to verify it's not interfering with the touchscreen.
If you have inserted a memory card in your phone, try removing it and restart the device. If removing the memory card improves the functionality of the touchscreen, your SD card may be damaged and in need of replacement.
Another thing you can try is to reboot your phone in safe mode in order to see the behavior of the touchscreen persists there. All apps downloaded from Play Store is temporarily disabled while in safe mode and by doing this you can see if this is caused by a downloaded app. For more information on safe mode and how to use it, click here.
If the same behaviour occurs while in safe mode I suggest that you try to perform a software repair using a computer and Xperia Companion. Please note though that a software repair will erase all user data, so remember to do a backup of your user data first.
If none of these measures manages to improve the functionality of the touch screen I suggest that you get in contact with your local support team. They can help you to have your phone sent to an authorized service center to be examined and repaired. If you have any questions regarding the service, such as routines, warranty and consumer laws, these type of questions are best answered by your local support team as well, as they vary between markets.
Let me know how it goes!
