Storage space issue Sony Xperia Z3

I keep getting messages saying that I am running out of storage space. Why? 

The Cache has been cleaned. It says I only have 500mb of free space, but only says there are approx 4gb of data installed. Does any one know why this has happened and is there a solution. Thanks.

I have the same kind of issue on my Z3 I have almost everything that takes up space saved on to my SD card and yet my storage graph shows only 2gb free. could it be a bug where this graph looks at each app as a whole and not the breakdown of what's stored on the SD card?

Have you tried downloading this app called diskusage? It will scan your internal or external storage and show you a visual representation of your files proportionate to its size. This helped me out when I had storage problems.

I have been on to Sony support and although i do not think that they understood totally what my problem was they suggested that I back everything up and then run a Software fix via my PC.

I would like to try and sort the problem out before i attempt the above as knowing my luck the back up will fail and I will lose everything!

sorted!!  it turned out that my Google movie downloads were saving to the internal memory, even though the phone suggested otherwise!

I have removed from internal memory and set the default to SD card and will re-install later.

Even i am having the same problem in my z3 and when some messages arrives in the whatsapp then it will show that the storage space is full then i ll change all my whatsapp message medias to the SD card and it is continued like this and i uninstalled almost all the major applications and only uising social media apps no games . How to resolve this if u come to know about some solutions please let me know

Not quite sure of the resolution here. I now have the same issue where the free is 500MB but the graph shows half as free. Therefore should be about 5G free. I used diskusage as recommended and it shows almost 6.5G of System data but how do I locate the large files to clear manually clear it. I tried some disk app and none so far help clear that up. I used PC explorer to look for them large files and cannot nothing of the directories show large data with Show Hidden is turned on .

Update the phone via Sony Companion via PC and it resolved it. Con... Had to do update and wipe out everything. Awesome Pro... Got back the multi-user logins. Was so dreadful when the OS was updated and took that away. So worth it actually.
