Several issues with Xperia Z3 Compact

Hi.

This all started when I realised the GPS on my phone was not working. Apps like Google Maps or Waze were not able to find a GPS signal. I ran Diagnostics, and the GPS Test failed.

The first thing I thought of doing was to Restore Factory Settings, but before doing that, I wanted to backup my phone. My first option was connecting it to the computer, but that doesn't work. I tried on a Mac and Windows 10 PC using Xperia Companion. Neither worked. I tried to do a manual backup to the SD card, but it got stuck on 50% for all settings.

At the moment I am deeply frustrated, because I really like this phone and don't want to change it because of some issue with the GPS.

I am running Android 6.0.1

Thanks

Hi @Convectuoso2208,

I'm sorry to hear this. I would recommend that you try to reset just your GPS. To do so open the phone app and bring up the dialer. Here enter *#*#7378423#*#*, then go to Service tests > GPS > Purge assistance data. Restart your device and wait for about 30 minutes and see if you are still experiencing the same behavior.

When you connect your device to a computer have you made sure you have selected file transfer. Do you get any error messages?

If you are experiencing that your backup to a SD card is getting stuck at 50%, that indicates there is something that cannot be backed up . I recommend that you uncheck different parts of you backup until you find the part of your device that cannot be backed up.

Keep me posted on how it goes.

Hi. I already tried purging the GPS data, but it didn't work.

In regards to the GPS issue, I don't get the file transfer option. I don't get any options at all. The battery charges, but that's it.

Hi,

I have made the same experiences except that not even the battery is charging.

I wanted to make a backup because I wanted to make use of my guarantee because of my problems with GPS and my slot. Last week it did connect and I tried to backup but there was already a problem with Sony companion.

Now I can only charge my battery by a powerbank but not connect my phone to the computer.

I'm really annoyed...too much time wasted already.

@Convectuoso2208, when you connect your device to your computer you should receive a pop up saying Use USB for, here should be able to select Transfer files (MTP).You can also access this menu if you pull down from the top of you screen, it should say USB for charging, tap here then select Transfer files(MTP).

When this is option is selected you will be able to create a backup of your device using Xperia Companion.

@Marisa283I'm sorry to hear this. Have you tried charging your device using a different charger/cable? I would also recommend that you restart your device if you haven't done so. Also is it Xperia Companion you are referring to when you say Sony Companion?

Let me know how it goes.

I used the original Sony cable and the USB options showed up.

However, since I couldn't solve the GPS problem, I got a new Xperia Z5 Compact to replace my Z3.

My Z3 compact broke the GPS 2 years ago
It was a guarantee and was replaced the mainboard
Now it broke again, I'm trying to reset the software
I do not think that will be resolved
I will have to buy another new phone but definitely not be a Sony
