I had this same issue. I too had taken good care of my handset.
In my case, the battery was overheating which caused the handset to bend slightly on one side (above the power button).
This wasn't easy to detect. It looked straight until I put it against a book spine. The bend became clear.
I physically bent it back and now it's not so bad.
Overheating battery is the cause. Poor job Sony.

Lol I dropped my phone soon after and the touchscreen literally stopped working. So I just gave up and purchased Sony Xperia z5. Till now no issues, it's the best phone I've owned to date and I'll use it to death (despite winning an iPhone 7 in a competition). Thanks for your reply!
I'd find me a suitable wall and connect the phone to it.
