Screen goes black

This seems to be a common problem, mine has been rattling around for ages. Symptoms are - sometimes, about 50%, when I make a call, the screen goes black. That will continue until the other end clears the call. I've run the Diagnostics App and the Proximity Detector fails. When i go in using the *#*#... stuff I can turn the PD on but it turns off almost immediately. Is this a hardware or software problem? I've done numerous reboots and I have the latest software. I did have a screen protector, I took it off and the problem got worse. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi, just had this exact same issue happening over the last week or so. I followed the same steps as you then another thread suggested pushing the top of the screen - and that fixes my sensor temporarily, so you could try that as a temporary fix when needed?

In my case, my screen is actually lifting from the body of the phone a little at the top right, so that's causing the fault so when pushed at the top right the sensor works again. There's also yellow tints on the top corners of the screen which is apparently the glue melting/failing.

It's annoying since I had the same issue with a Z3 compact, eventually the whole front screen came loose so it looks like Sony didn't fix it with the Z5 either.
