Screen flickering/blinking Xperia Z1

Sometimes my display flickers for a few seconds, doesnt mater where I am on screen, I noticed it mainly in call logs/calling, chrome, home screen and messages. It's nothing major and it's kinda weird flicker, like anti aliasing lines or something like that. And it happens mainly in dimmed light conditions. On the whole screen, not any specific part/corner.

After few seconds it goes away and it doesn't happen all the time, nor constantly.

Did anybody noticed it on their phone? Could it be software or hardware related? I'm on 4.4.4 kitkat and the phone is week old. It was already in water for tests but everything was properly sealed, doesn't have any fall damage etc., I take good care of stuff.

Any help is appreciated.

Send it to Sony or your local service. Or vendor where you bought it, he will send it for you, it's a hardware problem, I got it fixed that way (i'm the OP). That is your only option if you want to get rid of it.

you could re-install the latest update with SUS or PCC and check again

Thanks for the tip. But will it be possible to re-install the update without doing factory reset? I didn't use the sony update service at all, everything I've done was throught the phone only, so I don't know how that works..yet 😉

It will be wise to perform a factory reset

One thing came to my mind now as I'm at work - in a city with great network coverage and haven't had any aliasing lines in a few hours. Could this be happening because of a weak signal? Like some interference or something? Because it happens mainly when I'm in places with weak network signal - villages, underground parking lot, basement...a toilet (lol). It is just a theory but could it be possible anyway?

Will do some more testing today and tomorrow (before having my phone wiped) as I will be in different places with different signals, but nevertheless I'm really curious about this.

It is very unlikely to be caused by weak signal. If I had the guess I would say a software issue or a hardware issue such as lose cable for the display.

OK, so I tested it more without doing a factory reset, it is not doing because of weak GSM signal. It´s because of the mobile data connection. When my phone has HSDPA connectivity everything is allright. As soon as I have a weaker EDGE connectivity, phones screen starts flickering. Looks like hirizontal wave line flicker like you can see on older monitors. I´ve tried it in place where you can get EDGE only, I turned mobile data on/off. When off, display was OK. When on (EDGE) screen started immediately flickering.

Any thoughts? Couldn´t it be a hardware problem?

That certainly is odd, I would advise trying the software repair as advised by Uliwooly in this case.

I did, so did I try the phone with another carrier. Problem still persists though, guess I have to return the phone for display repair, seems like a hardware issue. Everything is fine and I really really love this phone but I have to fix this, I don't want another display damage done because of this, one never knows.
