Hi all,
Has any experienced problems with the Z3 not charging in the car at all?
I have been trying to use it in the car through charging and aux since day one but it won't charge at all. Have only been using the Sony provided cable.
Attempted in multiple cars newer than 2012 & no success.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Your car probably doesn't support the MTP-protocol in this case. Try changing the phone to MSC-mode instead under Settings -> Xperia Connectivity -> USB Connectivity -> USB connection mode. But depending on the car, you may also need to insert a microSD in the phone.
As I experienced the same problem, I just wanted to reword Sony's answer, to make things even more clear.
My new Z3 Compact was not charging in either of the two USB ports of my car (a recent French Peugeot) which are managed by the on-board entertainment system (for playing MP3s and viewing JPEGs).
I changed the Android USB port setting from MTP (which is useful when connected to a PC) to the older MSC mode and it now charges.
My summary of the situation is the following:
- If the Z3 is configured for MTP,
- And if it finds some intelligence at the end of the USB cable (not just a dumb charger),
- But it doesn't find MTP,
Then it doesn't charge.
It worked.... after 2 and a half year without being able to use it in the car, this worked. So happy I searched for this again. Omg thank-you so much. I just set it to mtu and it worked right away! I got bluetooth to work as well. Awesome.
