I've just got a new Z5.
My old LG phone is damaged, so I can't install the Experia Transfer Software onto it, which is requied to move contacts directly from one phone to another.
However, I do have all my contacts backed up on my PC. But I cannot find a way of moving them onto the Z5.
I have downloaded the Sony PC Companion software, but can only see options for moving data from the Z5 onto my PC, not the other way around.
Can anyone help?
How are the contacts backed up on your computer? As a backup file or saved to the Outlook contact list for example? If you synchronized the phone to your Google account the contacts are saved there, a thing which I find very handy as you always have them available even if something happens to your phone.
Some of my more recent contacts are backed up to my Google account, but not all of them.
On my PC I have the full contacts list as VCF files
One thing that you can do, is to move this .vcf-file to your phone and then import the contacts from the Contacts app (Contacts > Menu button > Import contacts).
Otherwise, you can import the .vcf-file directly on your Gmail account from the computer:
https://www.google.com/contacts/
Press More > Import > Choose the .vcf-file > Import.
Great, that first option seems to have worked thanks! Only issue is there doesn't seem to be an option to 'select all' - but even if I have to check every box individually it's still an improvement
Thanks for the swift advice
How do you mean by "select all"? Glad to hear that it's working.
On Xperias there is no option to select all contacts from .vcf file in import. You have to tab/accept on every one contact.
Last time I do it that way, I click over 400 times to import them. I broke my finger
You mean that you have one contact for each .vcf-file and not all contacts in one .vcf-file? Then I understand that you need to do many clicks. Some devices may export all the contacts to separate .vcf-files, but if you export the contacts with an Xperia-phone all the contacts will be included in one .vcf-file.
No, all contacts was in one .vcf file. I sent them from Nokia N8 to Z5c via bluetooth, and surprise was that I must to do a lot of clicks.
Same thing with Nokia E52 to Z3 again via bluetooth. I make many many clicks.
I think the best way is to send contacts to Gmail account, if you don't make a software change in this issue. Then only sync new phone.
Regards,
As far as I know, both Nokia N8 and E52 uses Symbian as operating system (just like our older phones Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Satio). The Symbian OS could not handle one big vCard-file with multiple contacts and therefore, when you exported or sent the contacts they where created as individual .vcf-files.
If I send contacts via Bluetooth from Sony Ericsson Vivaz to Xperia Z5 for example, all the contacts will be individual .vcf-files which I need to mark separately while importing in the Contacts app. But thanks for your feedback, I will forward it internally.
