Lost ringtones

Hi, seem to have lost ringtones on new xperia Z. When I follow Settings - sound - phone ringtone all I see is file commander. I have looked in internal storage - ringtones and the file is empty. HELP!

If you download a file explorer from google play, can you find your ringtones?

Same happened to me yesterday.

History:

1) Updated my Xperia Z to the latest Android 4.3 10.4.1.B.0.101 about roughly two weeks ago.

2) After a week the phone began to behave strange, random chrashes, getting hot, eating the battery fast.

3) So I did the usual thing after an update: do a factory reset (not funny, but meanwhile I am accustomed to it).

Everything fine after that, but:

4) Yesterday: tried to take a photo. Phone stuck, random freezes, getting hot again.

5) Did investigate through Diagnostics (find this in your apps), said: android.process.media does not answer.

6) Googled for remedy, found go to: Settings>Apps>All>Media Storage>choose: clear data

Worked, phone fine after that, but:

7) Today I find: no ringtones any more on the phone whatsoever (look for *.ogg data, e.g. in "Ringtones" folder and elsewhere)

So what? How can this happen? I did not delete it, and clearing a cache of some app should not delete them.

😎 Anyway, remedy: download them (Ringtones) here: Chip Page: Download Xperia Z Ringtones (Original!)

Sorry, that page is German.

9) Put the *zip in some folder (Ringtones for example, it's there sitting empty on your SDCARD anyway).

10) Unzip using for example "ES file explorer"

11) Wait a second, then phone finds the files, go to Settings>Sounds>Selector (if asked how to open) and choose your poison.

Strange, huh? How come my Ringtones vanished?

Sony? Any answers?

I suggest: make less updates (Yes! I mean it).

Check more.

Do testing.

Be thorough.

I'd appreciate it.

HTH, andbar.

That update really kill my phone's battery (the constant over-heating after update), now it shut off by itself and can't be turn back on anymore, unless the phone is stay connected to the wall or computer. (will shutdown 3-5 mins after unplug and regardless the battery level)

I can't locate my ringtones, when i do the settings - sound - Phone ringtone/ Notification sound - it directs me on the file commander.
I am unable to search my ringtones through it...

Please help.

I also have the same issue. I tried all the above recommendations except for repairing the device using Sony Bridge (I'm on Mac). I also tried downloading the media pack and installing the files to the three specific media folders which were empty. However as with the above post, when I try to select either ringtones or alarm sounds, I am only offered the file managers, but although the files are visible to these, when selected nothing happens. I now cannot hear calls nor use my alarm. Please help! Thank you for your support.

BTW chatting online with Sony support, they said that the only way to restore correct functionality was to use Sony Bridge to repair the system. However what I do not want to do is upgrade to the latest version of the firmware which cannot be rooted, and it was the upgrade process that resulted in this problem anyway.

Continuing from my last post, where does the system look for media files? It would seem obvious that it would look in each of the media folders: alarm, notifications and ringtones on the root of the SD card. So why are these files invisible to the system? I have checked them using other media players, and the .ogg files are fine....I'm confused and about to tear my hair out!
