Lollipop update causing phone ringtone to be silent very often

Since the Lollipop update, I have, on 4 occasions this week, come across the same problem.

When there is an incoming call, the phone does not ring, I only see the screen and notification light turn on.

Phone volume (using side keys) is set to the maximum level for ringer. I go to Settings->Sounds to select my ringtone, and try calling my phone again but each time it remains silent.

When my calendar has notifications, I hear the notificaiton noise for events.

The only way to remedy this each time was a reboot of the phone - after this the ringer would work again, at least until the next time it goes silent.

Any idea what could be causing my phone to remain silent for incoming calls  ?

No it is not on Priority.

I also went to Settings->Sounds->Interruptions
"When calls and notifications arrive: Always interrupt"

Have you looked here?

We have a full topic about this kind of issue.

- Do you have a ringtone saved on a external sdcard?

- You are sure that your sound mode is set to "sound"? It has not changed to something else by itself when this happen?

- Will a reboot always fix the problem for the first few calls?

The ringtone is not on an external SDcard.
It comes installed with the phone.

The sound mode is always set to Sound when I check.

A reboot has always fixed the problem. It has happened 3 times now, but not for the last 3 days.

Some used reported that this problem was solved for him by doing a PC Companion Phone Repair. He spend a few days testing without installing any 3rd paty apps and it never happened to him again. So he concluded that one of his apps was causing the problem, sadly he didn't report yet which app caused this.

Sorry to hear that you have issues with the ringtone.

Would it be possible for you to provide us with an eventlog from your phone when this happens? To do this, first go to Settings -> About phone and tap "Build number" 7 times. This will enable a menu called "Developer options" under Settings. In this menu, enable the option called "USB debugging". The next time you see the issue, go to Settings -> Developer options -> Take bug report. When the event log has been created you will get a notification that you can tap to share to for example Google Drive. Please send me a private message here on the forum with link to the event log.

Also, have you set any personal ringtone to the contacts this happens with or does it happen with any contact/number?

Hello again.

I do not have any personal ringtones for specific contacts, just one ringtone set.

The problem started happening again in the last hour so I followed your instructions.

I had a missed call 20 minutes ago, the phone was right next to me and not on silent, but it did not ring.

I went to enable USB debugging, and then called my phone from another mobile and there was no ringtone.

I now selected Take Bug Report and uploaded to Google Drive. I will send you a Private Message with the logs.

Its been 2 weeks since I provided my debug logs and sitll no progress.

This week I received the 5.0.2 update and I still have the same problem where the ringtone can become silent, until I reboot the phone.

Need to reboot my phone quite often now, nearly daily.
