Lock Screen - Sony Code

Hello there,

This morning I have been running a half marathon with my Xperia Z3 compact in my running belt. I do not know what happened during the race but it was locked when I finished with the following message :

" Unlock Failed

You have entered an incorrect password, PIN or pattern 5 times.

You have five more attemps before device will be factory reset.

To safely continue please Enter the following :

               SONY

_______________________

"

It seems that I have to enter a SONY code but I have no clue of where it can be found and which code it might be.

Is anyone would be able to help me with it ?

Thanks in advance.

Before you try a software repair, please make sure that you have tried to enter the word "SONY". It's not asking you for a code, it's asking you to write the word "SONY".

This is a safety feature we recently added in a software update. It's to avoid making a master reset by accident if you have an account in the phone that will reset the phone if wrong PIN is entered too many times. This might be the case if you for example have a work email account in the phone. So when you were out running, the screen must have turned on and then you've entered wrong PIN a few times while having it in your belt.

Thanks for your answer. I have tried the second option, locking the phone with a new code. It seems to work as my phone is connected on WIFI and has the GPS on, but I still have the Sony screen that I was describing above... Face_with_rolling_Eyes

Hi @BeBech

Welcome to the community

If what @uliwooly suggested doesn’t help.

I would suggest running a software repair on the handset, this will reset the handset .

Here's how to run the repair on PC Companion:

  1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
  2. Phone Software Update.
  3. Start.
  4. Repair Phone
  5. Continue
  6. Accept data removal
  7. Next
  8. Wait for prepare
  9. Select Phone
  10. Follow the connection steps

And Bridge for Mac:

  1. Launch Bridge for MAC without the handset connected.
  2. On the Main Window select "Xperia > Repair Xperia Device".
  3. Ensure the phone is charged and select "Ok" in the following window.
  4. Select Continue on the following page.
  5. Wait until the initialising step is finished the continue as below.

6 . Select your model of phone from the list that appears

  1. Follow the connection steps that appear, ensuring that you are holding the relevant button down before during and after the connection phase until the update/repair begins.

You will want to start these processes with the phone powered off and disconnected from the PC.

Hello Rickard,

I have to say a BIG THANK YOU! You saved me from sending my phone back for repair! I have called the French Sony technical support this morning, and the person I had on the phone did not have a clue about what was this SONY screen I had on my phone. She only offered to send it back for repair or to hard reset it back to factory settings!

Please let your technical support people know that we only have to type SONY Slightly_smiling_Face

Thanks again for your help!

Have a nice day ahead.

Glad to hear that you got the phone unlocked Slightly_smiling_Face

I will do what i can to push the information. It's a new feature that was added in of the the latest updates so it's possible not everyone is familar with it yet.

I had the same problem. The SONY text worked.

Just a feedback to SONY - the UI is completely confusing, there is no other place on the phone where the user is expected to make this kind of entry. Please change the UI text string to be: Please enter the following characters: SONY - to unlock your device. You might also consider localizing the text, as it comes out in English no matter what language you are using in your device.

I'm sure the purpose has been good, but the current text is just strange. Users are left to wonder what the heck they are expected to enter.

I personally removed the setting: Wake up the phone with a double-tap - as I suspect it causes this locking in your pocket.
