Latest update causing issues

Hi all,

My Z2 automatically downloaded the latest 'Whats New' update on Sunday 16th Dec 2018.

When it did this, the phone got really hot and got stuck. I restarted it but several times it got stuck on boot-up on the swirly purple screen for at least 10 minutes at a time. Eventually after just leaving it, it booted up fully.

Since then, it has been sluggish but more noticeable is the deterioration in 4G signal. Previously i could get really good 4G signal on Vodafone but since this update, i struggle to get any 4G signal no matter where i am, home, work, out and about. I have performed Vodafone speed tests and download is 0.8mbit/s yet in the test history i used to get 54mbit/s on 4G.

Anyone know why the latest update would cause such problems and any way to roll back the update?

This is what i can tell you as a current xperia Z2 owner from my experiences with this issue/s.

I have had my z2 for around 3 years now and have had multiple battery/restart issues which have come & gone with the help and persistant restart methods... i recently, 2 weeks ago tried multiple methods to fix the purple restart loading screen to no great avail. the bottom line is if you can get the precious personal data you would like to to keep do so by transfering it (recommend to sd card) asap as unfortunatly the only way to salvage the issues your having is to download the xperia companion and use the software restore which in turn will factory reset your phone (delete all internal memory) and fix any issues with an updated sortware .

any info you managed to transfer to your sd will hopefully restore your previous personalization/settings and you should be good to go...

However (please note) i  have encountered an issue just today hints why im troubleshooting here where my Z2 now turns off randomly and doesnt really want to stay on for long unless plugged in.

im at the point now where im looking at doing another software restore but only running minimal apps until i can upgrade to a newer model.

dont get mre wrong i m frustrated with these issues but im confident that its time to get a new model xperia if i cant continue using what has been a great mobile phone in the sony xperia x2

but this isnt the first time ive had issues with this model and the issues are at the point where there only getting worst and with technology and software updates unfortunatly 4 me i think it may be time to update but if you manage to fix the issue you are having i hope you get the most out of your X2 as i did cause besides its flaws i enjoyed it very much.

Hope this helps and if you need any other info hit me back.

cheers.

Thanks for the reply!

I've done some further digging and managed to speak to Vodafone on my lunch break. They told me they have being doing maintenance work on the mast near my home and the one near my workplace.

I thought this rather convenient, but to be fair on their website, the mast near my home did suffer a fault last Sunday and and ongoing one now. The mast near my workpace was having planned maintenance and to be fair, since lunch the signal has improved significantly.

So, i may have been suffering several issues at once. As well as low signal, the phone seemed sluggish and only this morning i restarted it and the purple start-up screen lingered for a good while.

Whether the mast faults caused an issue if an update was taking place at the same time, i couldn't tell you but this has been a great phone with little fault, and for me is only just starting to show any signs of getting tired and being outdated by newer models.

I'll monitor over the next few days and let you know.
