I've just bought a new Sony Xperia Z 5 phone and want to use the hotspot function to be able to connect to internet from my computer. When I use the hotspot without WPA-PSK, I'm able to access internet from my computer, but when I turn on WPA-PSK, I¨m beeing disconnected. My previous phone was Sony Xperia Z1. On this phone hotspot function worked perfectly, but not on my Z5 phone.
I guess I have to do some configuration on my computer or something? Please advice in how to enable WPA-PSK or similar encryption to make hotspot work together with my computer.
Kind regards,

Hi @haakon
Welcome to the community.
When you say you are being disconnected, how do you mean? Is it dropping out?
When you turn the hotspot on, is it broadcasting the network which the other devices can see? Are they able to connect to the network but just not access data services?
When hotspot is turned on the wifi network is available, but I'm not able to connect if WPA-PSK is turned on. However if I turn off WPA-PSK I'm able to connect and I see on my phone that one device has connected to the hotspot wifi network. I'm then able to access internet. When WPA-PSK is turned on I'm not even prompted for password when I try to access the network.
Kind regards,
Jon Haakon
When you say you are unable to connect, do you mean they do connect but the computer gets no Internet connection or are you saying the PC just wont see the device.
Have you tried other devices with this function, at least that way you can rule out where the issue is coming from.
No, I have not tried with another device yet. I don't have one available at the moment.
The wifi network is shown in the list of available networks. When I double-click the network, I'm asked for the networks password.
I'm entering the password and hit enter. Then an error message occur saying that the network is not available.
Until now, I've just been testing on my way to work or going home - on the train.
Now I'm testing at home and I see that the network is working with WPA2 PSK if the power chord is in my computer. If the power chord is out, the network doesn't work.
I'd say that's a strange behaviour.

What happens if you go to Configure the Portable Hotspot and change the security type to none?
Hello, I have similar problem with my new Xperia Z5 premium. When I try to share internet from my date plan with either my PC or another mobile device I got the connection to my Z5 but no Internet access.
I tried WiFi hotspot with password and without, tried USB tethering same problem.
At the same time Internet on the Z5 premium works just fine.
Please advise how can this be corrected?
ADDITION: Turns out problem was in y SIM card. I used Micro sim with my last phone and had to cut it to nano for Z5 looks like I did not cut it perfectly. Anyways i took sim out and put it back it and all works fine ever since.
Same here
Sony Xperia Z5 Compact (Android 6.0.1/32.2.A.0.253)) do have the same hotspot issue.
Hotspot will start and work file a while but after a short time, the wifi is unvisible to external users but the phone status shows that the hotspot is up and running.
Ive tried all sorts of recommendations to actually get my hot spot to come on.
Finally have it coning on but
