GPU/HW Playback in Nougat Android 7.xx causes stuttering

I have just noticed, when I was lying in bed to watch a movie on Sony's Video App, that nearly every movie I had was stuttering.
This wasn't the case with Android 6.xx.
As I checked CPU only playback works (VLC) but everything with HW is a mess.

Could it be that Sony did that on intent or what?
I did everything, repairing current version, doing a fresh flash.
Only downgrading to Android 6 would help.

Not sure if this is relevant but some people are having video playback stutter on Z4/5 series devices following the 32.4.A.1.54 update particularly in Google play movies. You might find this post by Dave74 useful with an alternative complaint email address for Sony Uk
