Ok. So "upgraded" from my Note 3 to is piece of crap, because of all the marketing calling this the best camera phone on the market. And I use my phone camera a lot.
On 23mp, manual and auto mode I cannot focus. Close up or macro images are blurry. All images have a soft edge and lack definition when enlarged. It looks like I've downgraded rather than upgraded! I have reset the cache and cleared it. Even done a factory reset. There is no case or dirt over the lens. No camera wobble. I have the latest software update.
if I can't resolve this, I'm selling it and waiting for the Note 5, which the only reason I didn't go with was the lack of SD card. With the Z5 I feel I've taken a MASSIVE step backward in tech. The UI isn't as friendly as Samsung, it's not as pretty, and the camera is just plain crap. 2 days of ownership and so far I hate it.
I need some redeeming features for this phone, so please tell me how to fix it. I'm an amateur photographer and I e won competitions with pictures taken on the Note. This, so far, is useless to me.

I've posted several complaint-suggestion mixed threads on this website since I registered but everytime admins removed it or migrated it to some section where it's not easily seen. I guess Sony cares about its customers, us, until we pay them and then just releases regular Android updates without an actual intend to improve their devices... All the improvements go to the more recently released devices (the case with X series, same camera sensor but better quality photos than Z5)...
@Chrisx187 Well, it certainly is NOT worse than 2012 flagship Galaxy S3 man! Be sensible with your criticisms! But yes, it certainly is not as good as they say it is! And it's all to do with their software running behind it! Look at Xperia X. Same camera, same IMX300 sensor. But, X's image processing software works better and the camera UI is faster due to better optimisation. The thing which will show us how much Sony really cares about the customer satisfaction will be the improvements they will make on Z5's cameras with the upcoming software updates thats all, and I hope they will really put some work into this or I too will be looking for another options for my next upgrade to be honest...
Let s hope the image processing from the x performance will arrive on our phones as well.
On the other hand please excuse my bad texting in the comments bellow. The auto correct was on.
dude even on xperia x series the post image processing is not that good for now z3 z5 and x which i tested have bad results getting beaten by htc10 and samsung s7 specially in low light
Camera in Z5 Compact is also extremely bad. As described earlier, it look like some software resized it to lower resolution then resampled it to be bigger again. No matter if you take it in 23 or 8mpix mode, the result is the same, only difference is file size. I switch from Lumia 930 to Z5C then switched to Lumia again. Quality of camera and camera app was awful.
I LOVED Lumia 930. I was about to buy it (despite the older S800 chipset) but at the last minute I decided not to go for a Windows Phone OS device. Flaghsip Lumia's have been using OIS and other Pureview technologies since donkey's years, and their cameras are LEGENDARY! If only there was a Lumia 930 with Android OS...
Yes. And you did not have to PIN-unlock your phone when switching to manual capture mode. And you did not have to install third party app to automaticaly rename captured photos from DSC_####.jpg to something normal like date/time. But I did not want to compare operating systems here, since many difficulties here are made by Sony, not Android itself.
What I was trying to tell was that my 2 years old phone had better camera than this one, advertised as TOP quality available out there.
