Front Facing Camera is no longer working, camera switch button is missing (Lollipop)

I just updated to lollipop a few days ago, wasn't having any issues and then all of a sudden my front facing ('selfie') camera stopped working.

The button simply isn't there and the stock camera app or third party apps won't work (Google camera, instagram, etc.). The few times I've been able to force it to try and use the front camera it gives me an error (Camera isn't working or something similar).

I recently did a PC companion repair and it still won't work. I've also deleted camera data and cache, reset, at least 3-4 times and nada.

Could someone help? I was going to factory reset it but if the repair didn't do anything I thought I'd ask here first so I don't have to set everything up again. Speaking of which, is there not some sort of sync utility so I don't have to set up my homescreen and apps over and over again? (Like the iPhone, where it saves everything as is so when you reset it it's back to normal)

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

If that fails then you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care and have your device inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

Hey I already ran a system repair, and I just booted my phone into safe mode and while the "camera switch" button is there, the front facing camera is just black when I press it.

I've already returned my phone twice really don't want to return it again...

This seems more like a Lollipop bug, I've heard Nexus 5 users having the same problem.

Sorry but I can't help any further as it would appear to be hardware and software and maybe just a coincidence - all you can do is contact Xperia care or return your device

The new lollipop update broke my front camera, I've tried the following fixes:

-PC companion repairs (2 times)

-Factory reset

-Deleting camera cache / data (4-5 times) and reboot

-Safe mode

Nothing has worked, and Sony support was unhelpful. Also, Sony has deleted my forum posts stating my issues and their lack of assistance. Really disappointing sony.

Same here. Bought my M4 aqua last july25. After 2 weeks had a problem with video recording. It captures blank videos and to restart the phone to fix the issue.

I went to Sony service center oct19 and had my phone just yesterdat. I wad shocked when the technician explained that they had replaced the motherboard.

And even got frustrated when I noticed aftet a few hours that my front camera isnt working anymore. Even the switch to front cam icon is missing.

They had also mishandled my phone. I surrendered my xperia looking as good as brand new 99% smooth, and upon inspecting it's scratches are all over the place.

I wonder if sony philippines could do something about it. Sony service center really bad!!!

Very upset. I have not had a selfies camera for months. Did all suggested things here a number of times. I only bought this phone for the camera. I think it's time you guys fixed it already!
