I am doing some checking before the Z5 gets to Australia. My Australian bank will not allow NFC payments from a phone unless it has ESE (Embedded Secure Element) security hardware. I have searched and scrolled the internet but cannot find out if the Z5 or any other Sony Phone has it or not. So far that banl will only support the other manufacturer beginning with S.
I am currently using a Z1 and it apparently does not have ESE.

@ScottMcS I have received the following official information
We only support UICC secure element so Z5 does not support embedded secure element.
I don't know but what I will do is escalate this and hope to come back with an answer for you or a Sony representative will come back with a reply for you
Thanks. I have been doing some more checking and what I understand is that ESE has been not used in Android devices since 4.3 except for mostly Samsung phones. So the security now comes from HCE and fingerprint scanner. So I am hoping that the addition of the fingerprint scanner to the Z5 will be enough for the banks to allow use of tap to pay on phones. I believe this is also the security used on Apples. I think I am right. But it would certainly be easier if the Z5 had ESE.
