Display wont turn on when recieving an incoming call

We'll this started happening today 

When I receive an incoming call my phone's screen won't turn on, I have to press the power button ( then the screen turns on and I can look at the name of the person calling me)  and I tried it on safe mode but I guess that didn't work either, can any of you tell me what to do

test the touchscreen and proximity sensor, if your phone has a protective case, film and/or glass, remove it 

Settings > about phone > diagnostics > test > select the tests.

I found out what was wrong 

The ' power notification ' was set to 4 instead of 5 which prevents the screen from turning on for a notification.
