In the UK no one really knows - What I can tell you is that the 3 network may have a case brought against them where they refused a repair to a USB port because the owner had rooted their device but as the port is hardware and not software related then this is the reason the case maybe is been pushed to the courts
If I hear more info on the outcome of this then I'll post it here but it will be a good few weeks
You should get an unlock code from O2.
!st make a backup of your current firmware been as it's branded use this guide here (Ignore the title as it's the process you need to follow - you may find there are more than 3 files beginning with FILE so you will need to add these extra files it could be upto 5) then yes you can debrand but this will not unlock your device for all networks merely remove any and all O2 pre-installed apps and boot up/shut down logo
Edit: To add to this you do not need an unlocked bootloader to do this and as such may not void your warranty however you could always Flash back your backed up firmware as stated above which will make your device factory O2 looking once again
