I used Xperia Companion to update my Z5 Compact. I was expecting it to go to Android version 7. But it is still on 5.1.1 (Build No = 32.0.A.6.152). I also tried doing a software repair from Xperia Companion, but no change.
When I go to this site: https://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/software/ and I enter my IMEI it insists that I am up to date. Any idea what I can try next?
Customisation Version = 1296-6653_R4B
Same by me, but by my Z5 Premium Dualsim
The customization version you linked is for a version called "Commercial and journalists". These units do not usually receive any updates.
Thanks @Quester.
Update...
I tried Live Chat. Wasnt very helpfull. Was told "Developers push the updates to the Network operators , Operators Push it to the end users This is has nothing to do with us at all.."
He couldnt tell me what network operators will do the update (I bought the phone unlocked so not sure if that has any bearing on things). And changing network operator may be a wild goose chase anyway, as it might not work due to it being a Commercial and journalists unit.
Did some more research trying to understand how Sony decide what can and cant be updated. For my build no (32.0.A.6.152)...
Some site suggest that I have a 'generic' build i.e. not tied to any network operator.
Another says its shared by Play Telecoms and others: http://wiki.xperiasite.pl/Sony_Xperia_Z5_Compact
And this one says it is 'Commercial and Journalists': https://xpericheck.com/device/E5823
Anyway, looks like the firmware specifies what network operator the phone is tied to and speaking to my network or changing the SIM would not help.
Your only way to have the latest version is to flash another customization. You can find detailed guides on the web for how to perform this process. It's quite simple, yet any errors may lead to bricking your phone, so do it on your own risk.
