black Screen on camera

Hi,
My camera isn't working anymore. When i open the camera, the screen stays black. The front camera is working. And if i use the diagnostic center, the app crashes. Does someone have this problem? Thank you

I have the same problem with the black screen for the camera on my Sony Z3 Compact. I would like to know what Sony are dong about it, since it seems many people are getting the same issue.

Hi,

No, SONY is doing nothing. They are saying it's my fault, because they are thinking that the phone felt.

Thank you SONY.

Just tried that - got an error message:

Camera restart failed - . Error running exec (0). Command:(su) Working Directory: null; Environment: null

Not rooted though - sounds scary

I contacted Sony and this is their reply:

We would suggest that you try to perform a repair of the software using Xperia Companion. If the issue is related to a problem with your software this will be repaired and your handset will work as intended.

To do this, you will need to install Xperia Companion from the Sony Xperia website, the application is available for both OSX and Windows based systems. You can download each from the following links:

Windows/PC - http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/xperia-companion/

OSX/Mac - http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/xperia-companion-mac/

Once installed to then perform a repair on your handset’s software, please follow the steps below, making sure that at the start of the process the device is turned off and disconnected from the computer:

1. Open Xperia Companion
2. Click Software Repair
3. Some on screen steps will now appear for you to follow. Please do not connect the handset until you are prompted to do so.
4. When you are asked to connect the handset (still with the phone powered off) please press and hold the key stated on screen for 30 seconds before connecting the handset and keep it held down as you connect
5. The repair process should now begin.

Please ensure your handset is not connected to your system when performing the above as you will be instructed to connect your handset once you have followed the above steps. Your handset must also remain powered off at all times.

Using the above solution did fix the main camera for now. I will report for how long though. Last time after refreshing the system it was working for 3 days.

Are people here having the same problem even with a rooted phone?

Mine is not and I recently had this happen to me. My warrenty recently expired so I was thinking of rooting it to fix it.

I have rooted mine but i haven't made it to work yet, camera restarter doesn't fix it for me.
