Backup problem Z5

Hi

I got my sony xperia z5 a couple of weeks ago and encounter backup problem today. It was running as usual a week ago.

I went into Setting => Backup & reset => More => Manual backup

then try to change the "where to store file" to my gmail account but it wont sign in.  It kept on saying "online account not signed in".  Not matter what it wont let me change to online account, although the backup account section has my gmail signed in.

My gmail account is signed in in the accounts section as well and I cant find any other area that I need to sign in.

Could someone please help.   This is the first time it happen since I got my z5..

Thanks thanks...

Same problem here. Tried clearing data from app settings, to force relinking gmail account again but nothing works to fix this problem. Saving to SD card will have to do until this is fixed.

Hi all!

Could any of you please send me your details in a PM, and I will forward this.

Make a relevant topic and include the following.

Name:
Phone nr:
E-mail:
Country:
Operator:
Product(s):
IMEI nr:
Build number:

I would also appreciate if you could include a bug report of this.

To do this:

  1. Go to Settings > About phone > Build number, tap 7 times on the build number.
  2. Go back and select Developer options then turn on "USB debugging".
  3. Restart your phone
  4. Choose to do a manual backup and try to sign in to your Google account.
  5. Go back to Settings > Developer options, select "Take bug report".

When the report is ready you will receive a notification. Tap the notification to share it. I suggest you upload it to Google Drive and then send choose to share a public link to the upload and include the link in the PM.

Thanks!

I've also tried contacting Sony customer care... This is the generic response I received back. It might as well have been an automated response. These responses never helps resolving any issues, it just makes the consumer give up on trying to get something resolved.

"Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia support centre.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. With regards to your inquiry about receiving the backup from the Gmail account to your Xperia Z5, kindly find the below.

To back up and restore using Google™ servers

1.From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2.Find and tap Settings > Backup & reset.
3.Mark the checkbox Back up my data.
4.Tap Backup account to set which account to back up content to.
5.Mark the checkbox Automatic restore to restore settings and other data when you reinstall an app (only works with certain apps).

To restore the device using Google™ servers

After resetting your device, you'll need to re-enter the same information requested when you first set up your phone. If you've been backing up your data to a Google™ account, an option during the setup process allows you to restore it. Some third-party apps also make use of the backup service, so if you reinstall one, its settings and data are restored.

Hi guys, I have exactly the same problem.

Funny thing is, I couldn't find any help on this by searching at google so I've decided to ask on a Sony's forum and after coming here I see that this is a recent problem.

Basically my phone behaves exactly as Yuan1202 described, so no need to repeat myself. It is obviously something on Sony's side.

Let's hope they will fix it.

I've sent Christofer a bug report regarding this problem. I encourage others to send it as well, the more reports we send the better chances will be to fix the problem.

I have forwarded the info I got from OriDjinn and Wodzu internally, thank you guys.

As soon as I know more I will let all of you know.

So I have just received my phone back from repair and i have booted the phone up and logged into the device using the same gmail account as before i sent it for repair. I have then gone to the backup and restore function to restore the phone from the backup i created on the morning the device was collected. I got a message saying "online account not signed in" so i then checked the setting for the backup account and removed my gmail account, rebooted the device and then went to backup and restore and the this time when i clicked on the "...not signed in" message it brought up a back and restore disclaimer where i then clicked log in with google account which was the only option which it appears to do. I then tried to restore the backup again and it still says that the "online account not signed in". I have then run the Xperia companion software and repaired the software which completed, go through the setup of the phone, go to backup and restore and get the same log in message and only gives the google account option to log in with which i selected again, but still I get the message "online account not signed in", even though the app tells me I'm signed in with it and so i cant restore my phone to the backup!

Any help on this would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi!

I have the same problem Slightly_frowning_Face

So when i go to "Settings - Backup & reset - Automatic backup" and tap onto "SD card" in the section "Where to store files" the small popup window came up where i can select "Online account, SD card or USB Device".
When i tap onto "Online account" i can see for a second an additional popup with "signing in" but this window disappear immediately and I'm back in the popup "Where to store files".
At this stage i can leave that popup only by tab onto the back button and the strange thing here is that i have to tap back twice to go into the "Automatic backup" window. So it seems that the phone thinks that it is in another screen (so i'm in the popup "where to store files", tab back button - still in the same popup, tab back again, back in the Automatic backup" screen).
I removed the google account already from the backup settings and i removed the google account completely from the phone and added then afterwards but nothing fixed the problem.
