Backup and restore file extension is different

I had to get my Xperia Z3 repaired after it couldn't connect to Wi-fi and Bluetooth anymore. Before I sent it away I made a backup of all the content on the Z3 by the use of Xperia Companion. It seems all to work fine and the backup-file got the extension .bak.

So, after I recently got it back from repair, I was eager to restore it back to how it was before I sent it away. I started up Xperia Companion and went to the Restore option and clicked on the button Open backup file. To my surprise I couldn't find the backup file through the Xperia Companion, because, of what I could understand the Companion will only restore from .dbk file.

So, the conclusion is: Through backup the Xperia Companion makes a .bak file, but will only accept to restore i back if it's a .dbk file. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

If what I've experienced is correct, then the Xperia Companion is complete useless to make backup and restore of a Xperia Z3 cell phone.

Can someone out there confirm or not if I've inderstood this correct?

For the moment the only solution I can see is to buy the Wondershare MobileGo for the price of approx. 33 GBP so solve this. It should be unnecessary as Sony should be able to provide their customers with a working software for PC to do the trick.
