Hello everybody, I just want to share my experience about Android 6.
Android 6.0 no bug but i miss lollipop.
I have several xperia and android 5.1.1 is my favorite on Sony products. I did the upgrade of my Z3 last week and I did not encounter significant bug, but i have some disappointements. I compared it with another Z3 (android 5.1.1) at the same time.
Firstly, it concerns Sony
- when i make a call, the speaker is less high than before, it is difficult to hear the other person in a noisy environment
- I tested several sim cards, in two different countries (France / Korea) and the network signal is weaker (I mainly use the 3g)
- when I change the ringtone volume with the volume keys, there is no noise to indicate the volume level (it was helpful)
- the camera is always good, but the colors are more saturated and flashy (it looks like Samsung) neutral colors were better
- HDR mode is stronger than before and blacks easily become gray
About the battery
- I didn't see any difference between marshmallow and lollipop in the most of the cases (with a 25 minutes youtube video I save 1 or 2 percent with android 6.0) but i have a huge battery drain while using instagram or facebook
- I also noticed a battery drain when the phone is idle (10 ~ 15 percent a day / depending of the day)
with android 5.1.1 battery was great, i didn't encounter any problem
About the configuration of app permissions: it was the primary motivation of this upgrade, but in fact it seems to be more a marketing tool than have a real efficiency.
My opinion about android 6.0
What I liked
- apps seem to run faster
- more customization possibilities
What I didn't like
- status bar is not visible in the apps menu / apps screen (I don't know how it's called, the place where all my apps are) : I want to know battery level and if wifi is available before to run an app
- the app search bar in the apps menu / apps screen : from my point of view, it take a lot of space and it's useless if I want to quickly search an app I can do it directly from the search bar on homescreen (or the little icon at the top in the apps menu / apps screen with android 5.1.1)
- the "suggered" page in the apps menu / apps screen : generally the most used apps are on homescreen
- the ability to delete an app directly from homescreen: I can easily make a mistake (eg I have my phone in hand with the screen on but I'm not watching it, I move my hand and hop ... I have to go to Playstore again)
when I enter in the apps menu / apps screen, it does not return to the first page, it has memorized the last page that I have seen (I can't use memory automatism to find an app even if I know what app is in what page)
finally there is no more difference between home screen and apps menu / apps screen.
very clear and objective observation..
@nolramlb Thank you
you can share your opinion too, it could be helpful
i didn't have noticed all and i have certainly missed a lot of things !!
well i can offer some explanations which are also based from my experiences of the update.some aren't going to be good.
for the camera: there z3 users reported that white balance option and the brightness and color settings is not present.
for the battery: I agree with your observations.. the reason stamina is better than doze is that doze will turn off once the device is used or not in standby, unlike stamina mode that will still continue to work.
for the app permissions: I whooly agree, they just horrible. i just get interrupted everytime ! why would the app designed for camera
use need to ask if it can access the camera?
overall the best observation i can say is the speed of the UI, i was blown away when scrolling thru the phone not a hiccup in sight..
I agree !!
for the camera setting, white balance option and brightness settings are just available in manual mode, can't access it in auto mode or video mode.
the autofocus seems to be faster too, but i can't affirm if it's real or just a kind of illusion affected by the new single noise of focus.
My 2 cents:
The main and crucial are sound bugs in .570 firmware:
- Lower overall level of sound from speakers
- Lower overall level of sound in earphones, I barely can listen some songs now, and on 5.1.1 I had 2-3 steps to max. level.
- Broken DSEE HX option, with this option ON heavy sound formats like FLAC will be stutter with your screen lock and the option itself doen not make any difference now.
- Ugly app bar
- No diff in battery life, but Stamina had customization at least
So, I flashed 5.1.1 back.
Helpful thread, but I think it will turn into something else. Slowly others will post their frustrations and it will not be ok, as some ideas are already covered in other threads. I will lock it, but if you think you need to post replies, please contact me.
