When will Sony ad VoLTE, ViLTE and VoWiFi support into XZ Premium Dual SIM for Czech Vodafone? Sony already has all necessary datas fot months and so far those functions are not enabled. Hope somebody could reply. Thanks a lot.
@lesmil All recent android devices may have it enabled by default but network still has a big role in activating this service.
Open your dialer, type *#*#4636#*#* - Tapp "Phone Information":
Scroll down until you see "VoLTE Provisioned" is that on? If not, turn it on.. tap the back icon then tap again the "Phone Information" - is still on? If not, means that your network did not activate your sim card to use VoLTE hence your SIM card is not Provisioned.
Noticed, all I said above does not relate only to Sony, it's the "official" method to see if any android device is equipped with VoLTE enabled SIM Card.
Thx for reply. I do know *#*#4636#*#* - anyway after pressing back key, VoLTE, VoWiFi & ViLTE options are disabled. I do have LTE SIM card from my carrier, that is not a problem. The thing is configs at
/system/etc/customization/modem
@G8142 CE1 (Dual SIM version of XZP) we do have this modem loaded:
amss_fsg_maple_dsds_tar.mbn
I do have 2 SIMs from 2 different carries (but my main is Vodafone Czech tho). When I inserted both SIMs, VoLTE & VoWiFi were not enabled on both of them. So I flashed G8141 CE1 on my G8142 device (everything went fine, no problems - only thing was I didn't see 2nd SIM card menu which is logical :)).
Then I inserted Vodafone SIM and there was no VoLTE etc.. So I inserted second carrier SIM and voila, VoLTE & VoWiFi were enabled.
Now I have checked firmware for XZ1 and guess what - there is
/system/etc/customization/modem/amss_fsg_poplar_vodafone_czech_volte_vowifi_tar.mbn
So I would just like to know when Sony will add that support for my carrier into DSDS.mbn on G8142 CE1 and/or G8141 CE1 firmware.
Any reply from dev would be appreciated.
@lesmil its true that a certain amount of customization per carrier may be present however in a ideal world all carriers should work in the same way to provision services and network, tmobile for example doesn't need custom "customization" in order to provide VoLTE, you have it enabled, you use it so your question has to be posted to the carrier instead, not to Sony.
Well, living in ideal world would mean all carriers use same LTE bands, Sony fixes camera distortion issue etc.. If they added that VoLTE&VoWiFi support into the phone with same HW specs (just newer droid version) I guess it wouldn't hurt them much to add it to the flagship phone as well. It is not only Czech Vodafone, it is about more carriers as well (same situation is for US T-Mobile etc.).
Hi @lesmil,
To be able to use VoLTE, the operator must have support for VoLTE in its mobile network for the specific device model. Also note that some devices do not support the feature at all for some markets.
In order to be able to make calls via the LTE/4G network, some conditions must be fulfilled:
Note! Contact your network operator to verify what is valid for your Xperia™ device model.
The Xperia XZ Premium is ready for VoLTE, but it is up to your network provider to provision it. If you are not receiving VoLTE, contact your network operator.
SO ,When did VoWiFi Get into xzp? Do u have this plan?
Thx @CameronT
- XZP is VoLTE, ViLTE & VoWiFi enabled
- my carrier only has Vodafone phones with branded ROMs, other brands like LG, Apple, Samsung doesn't have to have branded ROMs
- I am in a perfect range for LTE (akways 4 bars)
My friend works for Vodafone Czech (RAN engineering) so I already asked him about this and he told me that Sony has all their configs so it is up to them to implement it into their ROMs. So XZ1 had modem config for Czech Vodafone now I would really like to know an answer IF and WHEN they will add it into XZP. Nothing less and nothing more.
@lesmil some times you have to know that carriers/operators tweaks settings, channels, frequencies and APNs in order to avoid common users to use specif features on unlocked phones. That is one of the reasons why carriers like Sprint still use CDMA networks and not GSM or AT&T in USA keep using different LTE channels, Telcel in Mexico block most of the features to Telcel only phones... and Vodafone in the Czech Republic require branded phones.
It's a market and client retency strategy, by having you on a "locked" network it will help them retain the highest number of clients unless the client is willing to give up some "features" like VoLTE, WiFi Calling and so on..
Now, your friend is right, Sony has all the configs and baseband/modem settings but that belong to another mobile phone probably sold by Vodafone... And your phone doesn't seems to be one of them hence SONY won't release an HACK just for your phone because Vodafone in Europe support just the G8141, not the G8142.
Sorry, it may sound harsh but that's the truth.
Like I said, Vodafone here uses branded ROMs only at their own phones (Vodafone Smart 8 or whatever they are called). Other phones (Apple 6, 6s, 7, 7Plus, SE; LG G5, G6, Q7, K10, K4; and bunch of Samsung Galaxy serie) don't even have to be bought @Vodafone. So they don't need to have branded ROMs at all. I can understand why carriers don't support dual SIM phones (even if it is 21th century...), but like I said I could flash single sim ROM. But not even this one supports it. Vodafone says it is Sony's fault, Sony says it is VF's fault. Really lovely "magic circle".
