Sony... why can we still not shoot RAW? In 2018 Sony is the only flagship phone manufacturer to not support RAW capture. The native camera app is a little clunky at times and the 4K video frame skipping is unacceptable (even when steady-shot is disabled recording to internal storage).
Why does the Sony Xperia XZ2 not support 4K 60fps and 1080p 120 fps. Even the OnePlus 6 with the same SOC supports these frame rates. I love using my XZ2 but I can't help but feel like I made the wrong decision every time I open up the camera app.
The worst part of this is that is isn't really that hard to fix some of these issues. RAW support is native to android, Sony don't enable this feature on their phones, Why? The HDR algorithm doesn't hold a candle to Google's or even Samsung's. 4K 60fps is a demanding feature but on paper the XZ2 should be able to shoot at this frame rate. The Galaxy S9 and OnePlus 6 both do with the same SOC.
Sony please work on the camera software. Give your users more flexibility when capturing photographs and videos. Sony has the hardware but is limited by the software.
These kinds of concerns have been around in the Xperia community for years and Sony still fails to act. I want to see Sony live up to their reputation in the camera department.
Sony to do list:
- Fix the frame drops on 4k and 4k HDR
- Add RAW support and stream line the app
- Add 4K 60fps support and 120fps at 1080p on the XZ2
That frame droping is not only 4k issue, try fhd 60fps or normal U will see.
I brought gimbal for my recording and when I saw that freezing and laging in 4k / Fhd also with gimbal... I have no words
I Knew that xz2 stabilisation is drama and i was hope that additional Gear will help but now I know that recording software is shame!
30 seconds shutter speed would be a nice touch too.
4k hdr > 4k 60fps SDR
Yeah.
What's this 1/4000th to 1 second shutterspeed?
What about long exposure? Nightshoots with a Stativ? 2-30 seconds?
This doesn't even seem to be app related but driver for the camera...
Exactly!
It's stated here:
And here:

That both Snapdragon 845 and IMX400 supports 4K @60fps and FHD @240fps
4K HDR is cool but difficult to work with in post. 4k 60 would allow of half speed slow motion in 4k. This has become a common on flagship devices from other companies. LG added it to their G7 in an update after release.
Sony has the hardware, but then limit it with their software/firmware. We should have 4k 60, 1080 120 and 240. We should have support for RAW photo capture and shutter speeds of up to at least 10 seconds.
We are not asking for anything crazy. We just want Sony to provide the features that are expected on a 2018 high-end device. it would even help Sony to advertise their devices, as creatives would be more likely to buy and create with a Sony phone.
