Unable to update from 6.0.1 to 7.x/8.x after receiving phone back from a RMA.

Hey guys!

Recently I RMA-ed my XZ as its type-C port needed replacing. When I got my phone back (almost a week ago), the OS got downgraded from 8.0 to 6.0.1.

Anyway, when I go to software updates on my phone, the online checker and companion tool, all three says my phone is upto date and thus cannot be updated. I've found a similar thread regarding this issue here. They got their phone back to the newest update by sending their phone back to Sony (again) but if possible I'd like to avoid this as it means I'll need to constantly switch between 2 sims (should have really bought a dual-sim...) which is a pain.

Any ideas on how to get the OS updated again? I know I could probably just use flashtool but I personally don't feel like backing everything again and would like to avoid it.

Thanks!

Spoiler
I actually like how Android 6.0.x uses less RAM than both 7.x and 8.0 plus twilight actually works on 6.x/7.x however a couple of widget (e.g. soundcloud, steam's widgets) isn't working correctly on 6.0.1 and its actually really annoying. I don't think its a problem with the phone however as they are broken on my Z3C as well.
