Thoughts On The S8 Compared to the XZ Premium?

Hey everybody, sorry that it's been awhile, I still try to get on this forum as much as I can even though I don't have my Z3 anymore. Anyways, since Samsung announced the S8 the other day, I was wondering how you guys think it compares to the XZ Premium, mainly because they are both the first major flagships with Qualcomm's 835. Personally, I was expecting more out of Samsung this year, I don't know why but I just didn't get the "Wow!" factor that I thought I would and I now think that Sony has a honest chance of getting a lot of notice. What do you guys think, feel free to reply!

You can't compare S8 with XZ Premium in many ways, it really blew me off that some people are side-backing Samsung because of its camera. Aperture is just "one" of the components that made up the overall system of the camera, just "one". We aren't even talking about the software, ISO and other aspects.

Actually camera should be bolded in Samsung S8, less MPx on such small and tiny matrix means bigger pixel size and therefore less noise, hence less MPX is better in S8 than XZ Premium. Second: OIS > EIS, Third: software alghoritms that are WAAY better than Sony and Samsung ALWAYS takes better pictures, especially in low light condition. Other than that this wide angle lensescauses blurry edges in Xpeias since it was introduced in Z5...

And the most important: light. F1.7 is better than F2.0.
Furthermore Samsung always takes pictures and saves it faster which means you can take pictures very fast just one after another which is not possible in Xperias.

Curtain, aplaus, standing ovation.

No, I was Xperia fan and I still own XZ.

I am about to upgrade my phone soon but for the moment I decided to move away from Sony phones due to several reasons:

1. Camera - they still does not want to provide us with much better picture quality and serve almost the same since years: same old G lenses, same F2.0, same BAD algotithms, constantly no OIS, blur on the edges because of wide angle lenses, horrible low light pics. For some unknown reason they still focus on low resolution videos (while ditching 4K mode on the other hand - they abandoned this mode and just made a copy paste of the same app from Z2) while people mostly use cameras in phones for pictures. Slow mode may be funny for an hour or so, but then people will forgot about it. And yeah, it is 720p in 2017, please... Let them still focus on the videos and I will pick a smartphone that takes better pictures. They developed curved lenses to eliminate the issue with blurry edges they have, where is it???

p.s. even laser autofocus works wrong in Xperias since it "beams" only for a milisecond instead of constantly focusing like in other brands (LG), users reported this issue many times but they still did not fixed it in XZ.

2. UI - since years they use the same looking UI that just BORED me to DEATH.
Besides they keep to make it more and more stock which for me looks UGLY since I do not like stock Android looks. They took away a lot of widgets, animations, small apps and so on.

3. Cutting the costs in so called Premium devices: plastic frames, really? Again same poor, low volume stereo speakers?

4. Battery - in the past (Z2, Z3 times) they were kings in terms of battery, after that they keep to lower down the battery capacity making it only worse and worse (which is also a part of cutting costs). Now they are at the point with no difference to chinese brands.

5. Design - looks like they have no clue how to design it hence they incorporte exactly the same design as year ago. Their designers run out of fresh ideas.

6. Bezels, I do not bother it that much, but it doesn't means they can leave it giant on the top and bottom. For top bezel at least they have excuse (rear camera is there for no hump so ok), but the bottom one?

7. XZ Premium colors - even if I would like to buy this phone I do not like the mirrir - another fingerprint magnet after Alkaleido... then you have only one choice in terms of color - (at least) black. This is not wide selection.

I am samsung fan?
I am with Sony since T630 and you probably do not even remember it... but it is a time for change since they do not listen to the customers. If you will take a look at the trend you will see I am not the only one. Less and less people buying Xperias, soon Sony will play with their devices on their own.

Alone.

" I am with Sony since T630 and you probably do not even
remember it" The Xperia T630 is the first Sony Xperia phone I used, though it was stolen three days after I purchased it back then, couldn't enjoy it to the fullest. Am once a Sony fan and still I am, but not like before. You may not like the XZ Premium but I believe some will do.

No you do not remember it, T630 was Sony Ericsson, not Xperia...

In my few days of use, I remember quite well that the phone doesn't even supports 3G. The middle rotating navigation button wasn't that flexible to use as well compare to other phones at that time. I happened to purchased the white color variant with silver frame which blend well with the buttons white backlight. Do you believe now?

This discussion is going nowhere, the topic samsung vs xperia can be interesting and useful to help fellow users to decide what to buy but debating about being fan boys, liars and what else it's useless. Follow the discussion avoiding hate, sidetracking and meaningless words.

Alright guys, I feel like we're getting off topic. It doesn't matter if you did or didn't have a T630, you've had a Sony smartphone, that's good enough. Let's keep the post with good vibes.
