I can't find a local store that sells the new xz2 compact so I am not able to experience the feel of this new compact. But looking bulky and weighing quiet a bit more than both xz1 and 2, the 'compact' tag may be true compared to its big brother, the xz2; but the new Pixel 2 surely is the 'compact' compact device now.
