Text messages read report

I've just updated my phone to xperia xz2 compact with android 8 & it's using android messaging app. How do I get read reports so I know when texts are read? I can see in settings that I am sending read reports but I can't see how to receive them? My old phone Z5 compact on android 7 did this.

That's network dependant, unless you are using an app such as whatsapp and the other user agree or doesn't disable this pre-set setting to let others know when they've read the messages. If I recall correctly the Z5 only had the option to let you know if the message was sent not if it was read.

Hi,

I had a Z5 & it had a green tick appear by the message when it was read by the other person.

I'm texting my son who hasn't changed his phone settings, yesterday on my Z5 I got a read report - the green tick, today on my XZ2 Compact the message only says delivered it doesn't change when it's read - but I know the other phone I am sending the message to hasn't changed any settings. It's all the same SIM card, network settings etc.

just checked on a Z5 and there's only Delivery report, not if the contact has checked/open the message. 

If you can post a screenshot of such report, thanks.

Here's a screenshot of my husbands Z5 compact showing mms ready report option . How do I get that on my xz2 compact?
