sms inbox message

Hi, my sms inbox says I have a message to read but there is no new ones to look at. When I restart my phone it is still there. It doesn't display across the top of the screen, just with the actual icon. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Go to Settings > Apps > Messaging > Storage > Clear Data.
