Set different notification sounds for different apps?

I have checked the user guide and searched my system settings but I cant seem to set an individual sound for different apps. I have recently moved over to android from windows phone, which had the ability to use a different tone for different applications, am I right in assuming The sony XZ does not do this

Hi @HavingTroubles, welcome to our community and congratulations on your new Xperia XZ! Slightly_smiling_Face

As @Viridis mentioned, most applications have a settings inside the app for this, which you can access from the 3 dots in the top right corner > Settings, or if you tap on the 3 vertical lines in the top left corner > Settings.

Do note that these dots or the lines might be placed in different places depending on the application, but in most applications it looks like this.

So take a look inside the settings for the application and see if the developer of the application added an option to change the notification sound.

Let me know how it went or if there is anything else I can assist you with! Slightly_smiling_Face

Only if the specific app has the function to do this, such as the different notification for hangouts message, Facebook messenger etc

Most allow it; Whatsapp, Gmail, the messages app etc.

I had all of mine set up with different sounds before Oreo. Now it won't allow me to change them.

Hi @Vicjoaid1, welcome to our forum!

Are there any specific applications that you aren't able to set specific notification sounds for? Most applications have their own setting for this, which in most cases is accessed via the menu button in each application (3 dots in the top right corner or the 3 lines in the top left corner).

For some applications you can change the notification tone if you go to Settings > Apps & notifications > App-info > name of the application > App notifications.

Let me know how it goes! Slightly_smiling_Face

Hi again!

Is it the Facebook Messenger application? You should be able to change this directly in the app if you tap on your profile picture in the top right corner > Notifications & Sounds > Notification tone. That is where the setting is for me at least. Do note that we have very limited support for third party applications as we are not the developers of these applications.

Let me know if that helps! Slightly_smiling_Face

I am trying to change the notification tone for Instagram (a truly rubbish app that has no proper support or settings menu, but unfortunately need it for work)...

In older android version I was able to set each app notification individually, now I can't find any option to do that, and seriously need to change my instagram ringtone..

Hi @JP-FAP, welcome to our forum!

I had a look in the settings for the Instagram application and also took a look in the notifications settings for the app in Settings > Apps & notifications > Instagram > App notifications, but the only setting I could find was for turning sound on or off for the application.

Do note that the support for third party applications is very limited as we are not the developers of the application(s), but there is an option in the application where you can forward feedback directly to the developers of the application.

I hope that helps! Slightly_smiling_Face
