proximity sensor issue

when during call, the proximity sensor should turn off the touchscreen,

but mine sometime don't work and screen stay on

and my ear keep pressing all the buttons on the screen

mute, speaker, hold, notification bar program/setting keep executing and changing.

regular calls or whatsapp, skype, etc calls? 

does the phone has anything covering or partially covering the proximity sensor? 

does it happen most of the time or once in 10 or more?

it happen every few days and when it happen, it will continue for a few consecutive regular calls.

the screen protector has a cut out for the sensor.

the proximity test is passed

there isn't much to suggest here other than to keep an eye if an app tigger it, see what I did there? 

Does it go away when you restart the phone?
