Phone number in messages bug Xperia ZX3 Android Pie 9

When I receive a phone number in messages from someone and when I click on it, the app force closes and brings me to home screen(or just restarts itself). This has been an ongoing issue for 5 months or even more.

I tried:
-updating the phone and all apps on Play Store (it is currently using newest software of everything)

-multiple restarts of the phone

-clearing Cache of Messaging app (and then restarting the phone)

-sending feedback of the crash to support multiple times over a few months

-booting in safe mode and the problem is happening in safe mode as well.

I did not try:

-deleting data

-factory reseting the phone.

Hi @Favebook, let me see if I can help out here!

Does this behaviour only happen when you try to call a number from the messages app or does it happen when you for example try to call a number from chrome as well?

I would actually suggest that you try clearing data for the messages app. This will not delete any previously received messages, but it will reset all settings for the app in question which might do the trick. Find and tap Settings > Apps & notifications > Show all XX apps > Messages > Storage > Clear data > Tap "OK" > Restart the phone.

Try this and let me know how it goes!

This only happened when I try to call a number from messages app. Chrome/Maps or any other app work as intended.

I was afraid that deleting data would delete my messages, but thank you for that clarification. I did clear data and now it works perfectly!
