Per-number calling SIM card assignment?

I have an H8324. The phone itself is great, but lack of the option to pre-select the calling SIM card for numbers stored in contacts (or just dialed at least once) makes me wonder, if it's Sony's bad implementation or Android 8 omission in general. I mean the possibility to save the preferred SIM for calling for each contact, because selecting SIM before each call is just not right and annoying.

My good old dual-SIM Moto G2 with Android 6.0 does just that, and I was surprised to see that XZ2 can only assign the preferred SIM for calling which would be applied to all outgoing calls. Instead, I need it to work like described below:

1. Dial the number for the fist time.
2. The phone asks which SIM I would like to use (the choice is two radiobuttons with SIM card names); also, there is a checkbox named like "Don't ask me again for this number" or "Remember my choice for this number".

If the same number is dialed again in the future, the SIM is used according to the stored setting.

Probably, I am the only user of XZ2 Compact who suffers from this issue, at least within this board.
Anyway, if someone else is interested, here is what I've found, quite an old news, dated Nov.2017, but that means that we may get this functionality soon with the Android Pie when it is available from Sony later this year:

please note that it says "to its dialer", i.e. Google dialer app. Sony uses their own dialer app on their phones instead of Google's one, so it might or might not get the same features on Pie.

Thank you for you note, now that Android 9 is out it appears that you were totally right. I believe I should submit a feature request then or just hope that someone from Sony support team is reading this forum and will make an official response, once they have some time and inspiration.
