No sound after android 8.0 oreo update and calls not working (can't factory reset to nougat 7.1)

Hey guys.

Just got a second hand Xperia xz off gumtree, has no sound, from ANYTHING.
Also when calling, the phone either hangs, becomes unresponsive or just resets
(+ the other person does receive a call but i can't hear them and they can't hear me, and I can't hang up).
...Same happens after pressing to answer a call. Its unresponsive.

Everything else seems to work fine (mobile Internet, WiFi etc) and was tested when picked up the phone.
Lesson learned - NEVER buy phone on GUMTREE (no refunds there).

Symptoms:
-No sound whatsoever, from anything.
-Unresponsive/resets/hangs with every call
-Various apps frequently close, are force stopped or hang.
-when adjusting volume, it NEVER adjusts the media volume (eg when playing YouTube or clash of clans), only "ring and notification volume"

Sony support test (settings, system, about phone, support): FAILS on these...
-Loudspeaker
-Earspeaker
-Microphone
(asks to tap next and speak into microphone - the app hangs once pressed 'next', followed by
*support isn't responding*)

The guy confirms...
-there were no issues with sound or calls when he gave it to me
-was running on android 7 (nougat) when he had it.

I THINK what has happened is when he has reset the phone to erase data, it has auto installed android oreo 8.0.0 and hasn't installed the sound or call drivers.
IT HAS ALSO MADE MY FACTORY RESET, RESET TO OREO 8.0.0 BY DEFAULT

Have tried...
-safe mode
-Do not disturb confirmed off
-Tried about 5 factory resets

Any ideas guys? Is it possible to downgrade to 7.1.1 my other Xperia xz is using?
I want to try this but have no idea how on an Xperia xz, looks confusing on guides... Anyone know a good step by step guide, with no jargon?

Also, the phone may be in warranty...
a) Will this issue be covered
b) Will I be able to claim it, as I now have the phone (is warranty transferrable)?

Thanks
Ross

I have the same issue. First time it happened, I tried all the fixes, factory reset, software repare, resetting app preferences, downloading audio router, etc etc. Nothing worked. I sent back to Sony and they fixed it! However, just over a month later, the exact same problem has come back: no sound or microphone.

I think it's definitely a software issue. It would be too weird for two (well actually 3) pieces of hardware to all fail at once, TWICE in a row.

I hope Sony sort this out because it seems like this is only on Xperia. I think it must be caused by the Sony version of Orea. I noticed I only get his problem not long after a Sony update is installed.

Please fix as I will have to be once again sending my phone for repair as Sony's expense.

Update on my situation.

Not got around to posting back to Sony yet as on holiday.

Just posting here to say my microphone and sound weirdly came back for a brief period yesterday! It was only a brief and random periodc before tching back to it's broken self  I received a problem free call!

This just confirmed to me it's a software issue Sony needs to fix .
