So I have a Sony XZ, which I bought refurbished a few months ago. I hjave been using it, among other things, to pay with Google Pay by tapping card machines. yesterday this feature suddenly stopped working.
I tried to pair it wth my son't similar phone on Superbeam using NFC. Also no luck.
I tried deleting Google Play Servics data (I did re-add the credit card to Google Pay after that). I also tried rebooting to Safe Mode and back. Still NFC does not seem to work.
What else do I need to try? I do understand it might be a hardware failure and I actually have a warranty on it, but I'd rather do everything forst to see if it might be a software issue. (Do I need to try a factory reset? That's also kinda radical, so I'd rather check with any not-so-hard diagnostic options first?)
Hi @ramendik, sorry to hear about this.
Do you have any kind of accessory that can be paired using NFC? Some accessories can be paired directly using Bluetooth, but also via NFC. As you said, I always want to cover all the bases before asking you to reset the device!
If you can't pair an accessory via NFC either, the next step is to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. This is a bit different from a normal factory reset as it will also delete the software in the device and reinstall it, just so we can make sure that the software isn't the cause of the NFC not working.
All data stored on the internal storage will be deleted in this process, so it's important that you create a backup using the same program, before you start with the repair.
Should NFC still not work, then it's time to have the device examined by a trained technician and the Local support team in your market will assist you further with this and answer any questions you may have.
Let me know how it goes!
