I just got my new phone. I got a notification there is a anew Sony update. So i installed the update. The moment my phone had rebooted, i got a new notification that there was a new update for the system available. I installed it and again got a new notification there is a system update available.

Is it normal you have to do several updates in a row?

You might experience that if you have bought an Xperia phone that is not completely new model, there may be a few software updates pending since the phone has not been started for a while. You can either install them one by one as you mentioned, and restart your device after every update, or you can perform a software repair using Xperia Companion and your device will get the latest update at once. 

If you have added any personal data such as contacts, pictures, text messages etc., make sure to do a backup before proceeding with the repair as the repair will erase all user data.
