Google Voice Typing doesn't work

As the title says. When I try to use Google Voice Typing, it doesn't work. Not in Facebook Messenger, not in a simple message, not anywhere. But I can use google search.

Hi @SpyrosFgs, try the following.

To enable voice input

  1. Open the on-screen keyboard.
  2. Tap the menu, then tap More.
  3. Tap the gear icon, then tap Typing > Voice & other input.
  4. Drag the slider next to Voice input to activate voice input.

To enter text using voice input

  1. Open the on-screen keyboard.
  2. Long press the comma/microphone key. When the microphone appears, speak to enter text.
  3. When you're finished, tap the microphone again. The suggested text appears.
  4. Edit the text manually if necessary.
  5. To make the keyboard appear and enter text manually, close the microphone window.

To download languages for offline speech recognition

  1. In Settings, tap System > Languages & input On-screen keyboard > Google voice typing > Offline speech recognition.
  2. Tap the ALL tab, then tap the language you like to download. Tap DOWNLOAD.

Yeah I know the 1.0.1. What I am saying is that it doesn't work. I speak and it doesn't write anything when I'm on facebook messenger or on my messages. The suggested text DOESN'T appear.

@SpyrosFgs,

Is your microphone working? You can test it under Settings > About Phone > Diagnostics > Test.

Can I ask you something without you taking it the wrong way? Are you lazy? Did you even read what I wrote in the beginning? Let me help you. "But I can use google search". What do you think that means? When I google search with my voice, it works like a charm. When I use my voice with messenger, it doesn't. So yeah. My microphone works.

And now I know it's an oreo bug. Let me explain why. If I long press the comma/microphone key, the microphone thing pops up with that blue/green tint. I speak and it doesn't write what I am saying. I then have to do 3 things to make it work.

1st I have to press the blue/green microphone button to deactivate it (make it white again).

2nd I have to press at the space you write the message. The one that says Aa and after you press it is says Type a message...

3rd I have to press at the microphone button again, speak and THEN it writes what I am saying...

It doesn't work from the get go by long pressing the comma/microphone button. It doesn't work even if I press the button on the bottom right corner that says "Change on-screen keyboard" and gives you the option of "Google voice typing" and "SwiftKey Keyborad". Both times, I have to do the whole procedure I described earlier.

Last but not least. I see that you are from Sony's Official Support Staff. I appreciate that you are taking the time to read and answer people problems but you have to do it right and not rush your answers. Pay some attention to what we are having trouble with. I paid 699€ for my XZ1 and I have a lot of bugs. It's like I'm a beta tester for Oreo. One other bug that I saw a lot of people are having trouble with, , including me, is that we don't get notifications of our facebook messenger messages. We have to get into the app ourselves most of the time to see if someone sent us something. We also have trouble with our WiFi that has a little x sometimes and we don't have internet or losing connection. Other people (not me) are having trouble with their alarm clocks. Etc. Things that worked perfect with my Z1 Compact, are now problems to my XZ1. I hope we have all those issues fixed soon.

I am sorry if I misunderstood, but you did not say you can use Google voice search. This is a different thing. Please understand that many people do not try the simplest things, and more often than not the issue is a simple fix. Please do not think that as an attack on your competence, it is simply how I need to perform my job. I do not know what is causing the issue so I am suggesting the common troubleshooting steps that it could be. I will skip right ahead if you prefer.

First try resetting your Google voice typing application by clearing the data. If that does not work please try your handset in safe mode. If you still experience the same issue in safe mode, perform a software repair using Xperia Companion.

If you do not experience the issue in safe mode, then the problem will be a third party application. Make sure all your apps are updated and support Android 8. If you are still having the issue you will need to begin uninstalling applications.

If the software repair does not resolve the issue and it is not an application problem, contact your Local support team.

I have done all this things and I have the same result. It only work if I follow the 3 things I wrote.

I am sorry to hear that. In that case I recommend you contact your Local support team.
