Finger print sensor is not working on wet or sweaty fingers

Hi,

I'm for the moment in Sydney, Australia, and here it is summer now. That mean that I really often get sweaty or go swiming.

But when my fingers are wet I can't open my Sony Xperia XZ Premium with the finger print sensor.

I have tried different fingers and they all work the same.

I even tried to teach the phone how a wet finger look. But then it didn't want to read that finger at all.

The same happen when I'm in the kitchen and get water on my hands. I have to dry my fingers really well with a towel before I can open my phone.

My other phone (not Sony) works perfect all the time.

Is this a HW error in my phone or have someone else seen this problem?

Cheers,
/Sören

What would your OTHER flawlessly working phone be? Just curious.

No fingerprint sensor works on wet fingers. Moisture fills out the finger print pattern. It is just physics,

I know physics.

The problem is that if I for example take a walk and get sweaty on my hands, the sensor stops reading my fingers. When the body is warm it produces more sweat all the time. If the humidity is high (as it is here in Sydney now) it does not help to use a towel. I have to sit down and wait for 5-10 minutes before I have cooled down and the finger is dry enough to be read.

@Sören_MarödorenI'm afraid there's not much you can do about it. the fingerprint scanner in XZ Premium is capacitive, and water (especially when it's salty, like your sweat!) will mess up with its readings. I'm having the same issues when using my laptop's capacitive functional buttons with wet fingers, and used to have the same problem with old smartphones that used to have capacitive navigation buttons.
