Filter contacts with phone number only

Since the last update, I am no longer able to filter the contacts in order to display only the ones with phone number. Is there any solution for this?

Thanks!

Hi @TheLittlePrince,

I will make sure to forward your feedback regarding this as well! Slightly_smiling_Face

@dedeto,

I have received some more information regarding the filtering setting for only showing contacts with a phone number.

You may experience that the option to filter contacts without a saved number is missing in Android™ 7.0. However, this is intentional, and not a bug. There is currently no plan to re-implement this option, though no final decision has been made.

Let me know if there is anything else!

Hi @dedeto, welcome to our community!

In the inbuilt Contacts application there is no option to display only contacts with a phone number added to their contact information, you will have to use a third party application from the Google Play store to do that.

You can filter contacts by accounts so if you for example have specific contacts with only email address added to their contact information and not a phone number synchronized with an account and they are added in a group on that account you can remove the filtering for that group and the contacts will not be displayed in the contacts application.

To do that open up the contacts application > 3 dots in the top right corner > "Contacts to display" > tap on "Customize" > tap on the account and unmark the check box next to the name of the group that these contacts are added in.

I hope that answers your question! Slightly_smiling_Face

I have the same issue.
I have all phone book in my gmail and have different phone and email address book in exchange account.
If set filter in contact, it's OK not display one of exchange record.
However when use address book that in telephone key pad, still show all email address.

Even set filter by customized, same OK in Contact apps but failure in telephone phone book.

I think this is bug in Xperia XZ since it did work on my previous Galaxy 7.

Hi @Fkelvin, welcome to our forums!

The filter option in the Contacts application will not filter out contacts from the telephone application when for example, using the key pad like in your case.

I can see how it could be very useful if the filter option was "transferred" over to the phone application as well so I will make sure to forward this as user feedback! Slightly_smiling_Face

That would be great if you could add that as user feedback @Jonas, as i have come accross the same problem. I only use the phone app for both calls and contacts, as i dont really understand why there is still 2 seperate apps for the phone and contacts. Especially as the phone app has a contact list within it!

I was really confused why i could see two completely different sets of contacts in both apps and being able to only configure one in a seperate app.

anyway, just my $0.02

thanks

Hi @Pomps, welcome to our forum! Slightly_smiling_Face

I have not yet received any new information about this but when I do I will post about it this thread! Slightly_smiling_Face

As you wrote, the filter function for contacts will only apply to the contacts application as the contacts list in the phone application uses no filter at all and should display all contacts.

I thank you for your feedback regarding this! Slightly_smiling_Face

I'm having the same problem.  This is ridiculous.  I have one Sony running Android 6 and can filter contacts only with phone numbers and another Sony running Android 7 that I have a whole list of the same contact, only one of which has a phone number!

Please get this sorted!

Hi @Bri7,

I will make sure to forward your thoughts on this internally. Do note that there is currently no plan to re-implement this option, though no final decision has been made.

If this is a feature that you often use you can always have a look in the Google Play store and see if there is a third party application that you can download that has this feature!
