I switched the UI to 4k using the adb hack to have cleaner, thinner and smoother fonts. In 4k fonts look really great. The difference is noticable. I used highest possible resolution on my galaxy device just to have better fonts rendering. Please make it possible to switch UI to 4k in Settings. Having a DPI option would be great also. With the hack some apps don't work properly, the dialer app constantly crashes. So an official way for 4k UI would be appreciated.
Actually, the ADB command and other ways are just emulating the 4K, not giving you native. In other words, they're taking the FHD resources (from xxhdpi folders) and scaling them up to 4K. That's not even as sharp as the 2K screens that use xxxhdpi resources.
They need to enable native 4K on their end, probably the kernel.
Enabling 4K by default means higher power consumption and heat generation. But I do agree that it would be good to let users have the option to enable it by default. As consumers become more informed and discerning, they want the ability to choose and decide what is good for themselves. If nothing at all, it's definitely a positive step forward.
