Android 9 Ui hasnt changed

I have updated my sony xz2 to android 9 and nothing has changed even though it says that lots of things should have changed. is there another step to updating?

What do you mean by nothing changed? just go to settings > about phone > make sure that you have the latest version

my friend showed me his android 9 Ui and how it was different but mine hasn't changed from the previous version.

can you give an example?

also, maybe it's this

long press anywhere on the home screen > settings > Enable swipe up

For example: the icons are still the same as prior, the pull-down settings thing isnt rounded and when you press the "tabs" button it is still and up-down scroll
