Z5 camera app, awful, recommendations?

So I've had a S1 and then the Z1 compact and now the Z5 compact.

Generally the phone design gets better each time.

However, the camera app on my Z5 is awful.

I've had the phone around a month.

It's slow to start, hardly responds to the camera button.

Starting up is lethargic, then rolling from one function to the next is unreliable due to perceived lag.

so trying to take a simple picture today ofa static object took about a minute.

Camera app, then the GPS request came up, which kicks you from the camera as you touch to capture but then it's an options button. then somehow I'd rolled onto the movie function, not sure how.

Then stopping the movie tooks ages as it saved a 5 second movie very slowly. Then it wouldn't roll back to the stills function, then it's gone too far to the manual settings.

Seriously. Can it just simply work on request?

User error? or is there too much lag? I'm sure that it was pretty swift when I first got the phone.
Are there alternatives as this default one is very poor, and the camera is one of the reasons I buy Sony in the first place.

Hi, do you have any task killers or anti virus software that you have added since getting the phone...also try running the phone in Safe Mode & see if there is any difference http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008fe

hi, thanks for the advice.

I have a task killer but the camera is white listed.

I have an AV but that shouldn't be an issue.

I actually think that it's a lack of memory.

I've noticed that my Z5compact runs with less memory free than the Z1 compact (2Gb each).

I've uninstalled facebook and messenger as they are memory hogs.

however, when the camera is active, it does take some time to get going which is disappointing.

My  memory usage stats are about 98% which means there's no room to get other things started quickly.

That might be an overall issue with Android more than anything.,??
