Z3 unable to mount 64GB micro SD card

Hi All,

my new xperia z3 unable to mount my working 64GB mico SD card. the phone detected that the file format is different and prompt to format. But after formatting, it is still unable to mount the card. I tried this 64Gb card on PC and it is working. I tried mounting a 32Gb card on the Z3 and working too.

Any update from Sony on this? Clearly this is an issue experienced multiple users who have all proven at this point that the issue is on Sony's end. At this point I would send Sony my SD card and they can put it in their own Z3 and see that the card works fine on Windows, OS X, and Linux but the Z3 steadfastly refuses to mount it.

@Wannabe

I'm afraid we haven't been able to find any issues with using 64GB SD cards. If this happens with different SD cards i can only advice that you contact a service location for further investigation.

@Santuccipod

Sorry to hear that.

Have you also tested your phone with another SD card? I have access to a Kingston 64GB Class 10 myself and it works fine in Z3.

I have exactly the same problem. Have had genuine SanDisk and Kingston 64GB SDXC cards and although working correctly to begin with suddenly have damaged SD card. I have removed the card and put into card reader within windows and everything is fine yet the phone is still giving issues. First noticed this following a software update not sure if it is related. This is unacceptable. Contacted Sony via o2 who said they would send me details to return the phone yet have had nothing. I do not think the hardware is at fault so please can this be investigated properly and not dismissed. Too many people have a problem. You worry about people not buying your phones then start taking responsibility and admit the issue and fix it.

I've got exactly the same fault. SanDisk 64gb my z3 will not mount it. I noticed this fault appeared after lollipop update.

Sony are you listening to your customers, I have purchased three 64GB cards all of which the xperia z3 states are damaged after a period of time yet they pass all checks on the pc - the cards are not faulty but something since the 5.0.2 is causing this issue. Please can you respond to the issues that are being raised and investigate a fix.

I have similar problem. My Z3 compact simply does not mount my Samsung 64gb evo sdcx card.

Unacceptable form from Sony, especially considering it is a top of the range phone.

I’ve got a problem with my Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet that I had as well with my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact smartphone during last Christmas time. Few days after I insert a 64GB micro SD card the phone slows rapidly down, apps aren’t working properly and I can’t find data on the SD card although the SD card is shown in the settings. Also the battery running much faster out of power (within 12 hours also when I’m not using it) and the device is getting hot (40°C).

First, when this problem appeared on my smartphone I thought of a defect of this certain device. After it was repaired 3 times and the problem was still there, Sony wanted to replace the smartphone with a new one. I refused and received my money back (less than I paid for) because the whole procedure took 4 months. The fact that Sony couldn't fix the issue after sending it 3 times under repair and wanted to replace it with a new one shows that there is a problem!

I build up trust again with Sony and bought a Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet 32GB. But unfortunately the same problem appeared again and my trust is destroyed. So it wasn’t only the certain smartphone I bought which shows this issue, the whole Xperia Z3 family seems to have this problem. I’m also not the only one. Other people as well have the same issue: /t5/Xperia-Z3-Z3-Dual/Z3-unable-to-mount-64GB-micro-SD-card/td-p/850563/page/4

For further investigation of this problem I show you the information and what I have done so far:

-I tried 2 different SD cards: SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I, Class 10, 64GB (SDSDQU-064G) (first I thought the problem was because of a defect of this SD card. Sandisk was very kind and replaced it with a new one) and SAMSUNG microSDXC Card Pro UHS-I, Class 10, 64GB (MB-MG64D/EU) (brand new one)

-exFAT and FAT32 format don’t solve the problem

- The SD card is filled with 30 GB of data: mainly music and eBooks, and some pictures and few videos. I checked all the data: no file is corrupted! I didn’t transfer apps to the SD card.

-I bought the Smartphone Z3 Compact and the Tablet Z3C WIFI BLACK SGP612

-Tablet is running with 4.4.4 Kitkat

-I also have to mention that I don’t have the SD card problem with my Sony Ericsson Xperia ST18i (now 4 years old, and I’m still using it because the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact smartphone didn’t worked out) with both SD cards!

So, is there a solution for this problem?

If not, I send a request to Sony: find a solution for this urgent problem. Don’t deny it by saying there isn’t a problem with the device because you put a SD-card into one of your smartphone/tablets and everything is working fine. Take it serious! This problem appears few days after the insertion of a SD card. It appears faster, when you turn off and on the tablet several (3-4 times). Reset to default only helps temporally, the problem appears again after you insert a SD card. So just do something to solve it! Otherwise you have to take it back because of breach of warranty (compatibility with SD-cards up to 128GB are guaranteed)! If not, I will for sure (reconsider) refuse to buy any Sony devices in future. I’m not the only one with this problem. Probably other would follow my Sony free future.

My Z3 was also unable to mount 64Gb card (Stronium) or failed to read write  when the firmware was 4.4.4 and 5.0.2. Recently I upgraded my Z3 to 5.1.1 and tried to mount 64Gb card again. I unplug 32 Gb card and plug the 64Gb card when the device was ON. It's unable to mount the card automatically but I can mount it manually in storage setting and I can read/write files into 64Gb card. I think I need to few more days to test if it is working fine in my Z3 with fw5.1.1.

I think anyone who's the same issue can try to mount your card again after firmware upgraded.

Well maybe you should get your developers to test my SD cards Becuase I tested 4 and only 1 works with the Z3.
