Z3 Compact Tablet SD performance issues

Hi there, I have been finding the need for my SD card a lot lately as 16gb is just not enough now once you start adding games. I have a Samsung EVO 32gb card for it that I have been using however there seems to be an issue with the tablets read/write speeds.

The benchmarks I run show:

Read: 16.56MB/s

Write:15.14MB/s

These are very slow for the card and the bechmarks speeds appear to be accurate as I have severe lag issues with apps on the SD card. I also have a Z3 phone which shares almost identical specs to this which does not have the same issues at all when using the same card with no lag in apps.

On phone I can get:

Read:40.48MB/s

Write:22.24MB/s

This is about the same as the PC is able to obtain over USB 3 and maxes out the speed of the card.

Is this an issue with all Z3 Tablets or is mine faulty?

Thanks

Unfortunately this is one of the reasons google had trouble optimizing apps to SD option. Even if you move apps to SD, you won't experience the same speed as you do with internal memory. Read more here about other disadvantages:

Hi alexdon and thanks for your response. I fully understand the sd cards wont be the same speed as internal memory as the benchmarks are showing read speads in the 300-400mb range. So ofcourse we wont see those speeds replicated on sds quite yet. However those speeds are overkill for apps asno app atm really needs access to that much data at once at the moment. Read speeds of 40MB/s is more than fine for the apps that I have tried on my phone.

The issue is that the read speeds from the tablet are very low especially when compared to my Z3 phone that launched around the same time with mostly identical specs. The phone was able to max the cards speeds so could probably get read and write speeds even faster than what I posted. The problem is the tablet is not acheiving that at all.

With Marshmallow coming to the device in the near future this will play a bigger part than it does now as the apps2sd option will become obselete when we can use our sd cards as internal storage making the read/write speeds crucial for this.

Indeed marshmallow should change this, allowing you to use the SD card together with internal memory. Honestly, not sure how that will work out but let's hope for the best. Problem is, once you merge the two memories, you cannot save media on it.

This is very true but with the price of UHS1 sd cards so cheap at the moment this isn't really that big of a problem for most people. With regards to the speeds the tablet is showing would it be recommended to contact Sony support directly?

Definetely, we do not have such information to share with you. Go ahead and contact your Local support. Keep us updated too if you wish.

Just to update as I can't find anywhere online where people are saying the same thing with the sd card. I contacted Sonys UK support and the advisor suspects my tablet is faulty and is going to send me details on how to get it sent in to be looked at by an engineer.

While I wait for the details to come through I'd love to know if anyone else with this tablet is also only getting the speeds listed in my op for their tablet. I say this as the advisor didnt seem very knowledgable on the device.

Thanks

I've got the same problem where all sd cards read about 15mbs. I put the same sd card in my z2 phone and I get 40mbs. On my shield tablet I get 60mbs.
