Z3 compact not automatically re-connecting to network

When I lose cellular signal my Z3 compact fails to automatically reestablish a signal when I move into an area of improved signal, instead it shows the red cross against my signal bars and i have to manually restart the phone to get data and celluar signal back.

This is really irritating because if I don't notice, all incoming calls are diverted to voicemail!

Having had a google around the area it seems to be a common problem but I can't seem to find a fix for it anywhere. Does anyone have a fix or work around?

What network mode are you using? Try WCDMA(preferred)/GSM. Like that,it will try to find 3G but if it cannot,it will go for 2G.

I only have the options of 4g down to 2g there is no option for WCDMA.

Could you post a screenshot? You should have LTE/WCDMA/GSM,all these.

I think I'm looking in the right place, mobile networks > network mode. And it just lists 4g preferred 3g,2g then 3g preferred 2g, down to just 2g

Besides, if I'm paying for 4g I'd like to use it. I was hoping this is a firmware problem as I really don't want to have to return the phone to the shop 😞

And what is selected? You should contact your network.

I have the 4g(preferred) 3g/2g selected. This is the same SIM that I used for my previous phone and had no problems. As I said in the OP, this seems to be a relrelativly common problem with Z3s.

I will give the 3g(preferred) option a try today and see how that goes, thanks for help.

No such luck I'm afraid, dropped signal twice this morning already Slightly_frowning_Face hopefully the o2 shop will take it back as I've only had the phone just over 2 weeks.
